Getting used to new sounds

A new hearing aid makes ‘new’ sounds audible to the user. It takes time to get used to hearing so many ‘new’ sounds again.

New sound impressions

With the help of a hearing aid, you may hear sounds that you have not heard for years, and sounds you are used to, such as your own or others’ voices may sound different.

Getting used to new sounds

Getting used to hearing aids is a learning process. The user has to get accustomed to having something in the ear, as well as to hearing a wider range of sounds around them.

With practice, hearing aids can become a comfortable and important part of daily life.

Getting used to the feeling of having a hearing aid or earmould in the ear canal is not generally a long process, but of course it varies from one individual to another.

Start in quiet surroundings

It is generally a good idea to start in small steps. You could for example start using the hearing aid 1-2 hours daily in quiet surroundings and then increase usage gradually.

Many experienced hearing aid users wear their hearing aids all day long because they feel they are a more active party to life.
